Bronze Star
HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 13 - 20 JANUARY 1951
AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL. -- By direction of the President under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944, (Section II, WD Bulletin 3, 1944) and pursuant to authority contained in Army Regulations 600-45, and Department of the Army Message W89043, the Bronze Star Medal with "V" Device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an armed enemy is awarded to the following officers and enlisted men:
First Lieutenant Manuel Kortright, 0945618, Infantry, Company "C", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. In the early morning hours of 14 December 1950, in Oro-ri- Korea, Lieutenant Kortright, while assisting in the evacuation of wounded personnel from the town of Oro-ri, learned that there were wounded men on the far side of the town which the enemy still controlled. Immediately and without regard for his personal safety he formed a ten-man squad, proceeded through the heavily enemy infested town, located the wounded, and personally assisted in returning them to friendly hands. As a result of this action, one officer and two men were saved the torment of having to wait several hours before receiving medical attention. The gallantry and leadership of Lieutenant Kortright reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
