Bronze Star
First Lieutenant Salvador Jimenez Junior, 0954379,
Medical Service
Corps, Medical Company 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry
Division, United States
Army. On 4 February, 1951 in the vicinity of Chemchan,
Korea, Company "I",
65th Infantry, was attacking hill 561. Lieutenant
Jimenez who was in
charge of a litter bearing group, led them to the
scene of the engagement.
He unhesitatingly supervised and helped to remove
the wounded and dead while
the engaged company was still under heavy enemy small
arms fire. When all
available litters had been used for the wounded, he
immediately directed
his men to improvise litters, using those to evacuate
the dead. Lieutenant
Jimenez exposed himself to enemy small arms fire many
times in order to
remove the wounded to safety. The determination and
disregard for personal
safety displayed by Lieutenant Jimenez served as an
inspiration to all and
reflect great credit upon himself and the military
service. Entered the
military service from Puerto Rico.
