GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 139 14 May 1951AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men :
FIRST LIEUTENANT KEITH E. DUKE, 0552027, Infantry, Company "K" 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 21 February 1951, near Seoul, Korea, Lieutenant DUKE was observing the 3d platoon of Company "L", 65th Infantry, gathering data on a possible Han River crossing. Very intense enemy small arms, automatic weapons, and heavy mortar fire pinned down the platoon, several wounded men were left on the river bank. With no regard for his own safety, Lieutenant DUKE ran down the river bank and assisted in bringing the wounded men to safety. On two occasions he was pinned down by intense enemy fire, but he managed to carry out the wounded soldiers. Lieutenant DUKE'S courageous actions reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from the State of California.
