GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 411 - 10 September 1951

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men:

FIRST LIEUTENANT ROBERT C. HODGES, 062878, Armor, Heavy Tank Company, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 27 June 1951, Lieutenant HODGES was in command of a tank platoon supporting infantry elements in an attack on Hill 453 near Wan-ni, Korea. In the ensuing action, the task force came under small arms fire from enemy positions on an adjacent hill and because the hilly terrain obscured observation, Lieutenant HODGES was forced to abandon the protection afforded by his tank in order to make a personal reconnaissance on foot. While thus dismounted from the vehicle, he was wounded by the enemy small arms fire but refusing medical aid, he returned to the tank and despite the pain of his wound and weakness due to loss of blood continued his support mission until the infantry had captured its objective. Lieutanant HODGES' heroism and exemplary determination reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from the State of New Mexico.
