GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 101 12 April 1951AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men :
FIRST LIEUTENANT RUDDIE E. IRIZARRY HERNANDEZ, 01326709, Infantry, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 10 December 1950, near Majon-dong, Korea, Lieutenant IRIZARRY HERNANDEZ was in command of a platoon laying a mine field and establishing a barbed wire barricade. Immediately after the platoon started its work, it was subjected to hostile small arms and automatic weapons fire. Observing that he could not finish his mission while under this heavy fire, Lieutenant IRIZARRY HERNANDEZ called for and directed the fire of a machine gun sectin upon the enemy positions. Despite the enemy fire and the overhead friendly fire, he continoously moved about encouraging his men and directing the completion of their task. The determination and gallentry displayed by Lieutenant IRIZARRY HERNANDEZ reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
