GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 367  31 Aug 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers:

First Lieutenant STEVEN I. TRAUB, 02266292, Armor, Tank Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the afternoon of 17 July 1953, Lieutenant TRAUB commanded a task force of tanks which entered enemy held territory in the vicinity of Kundong-Myon, Korea. Although subjected to a heavy concentration of mortar fire, he effectively directed the task force in laying supporting fire on enemy troops and fortifications which materially added in the successful accomplishment of the mission of the friendly raid. As the task force returned to friendly lines, Lieutenant TRAUB'S tank struck a mine which disabled it. He immediately exposed himself to the incoming shell fire and supervised the movement of another tank to his position where a towing cable was attached. He then skillfully commanded the task force back to the friendly lines. Lieutenant TRAUB'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Connecticut.
