GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 464 28 October 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL (FIRST BRONZE OAK-LEAF CLUSTER). - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officer and enlisted man:
First Lieutenant GUSTAVO RAMIREZ DE ARELIANO, 02097339, Medical Corps, Medical Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the night of 25 July and early morning hours of 26 July 1953, in the vicinity of Pong-Dong, Korea, the enemy directed intense mortar and artillery fire on the 1st Battalion area, inflicting several casualties. Lieutenant RAMIREZ DE ARELIANO bravely left his foxhole and moved into the terrain under fire to aid the wounded and direct their evacuation. With disregard for his personal safety, he repeatedly exposed himself to the exploding rounds, searching for additional casualties. Through Lieutenant RAMIREZ DE ARELIANO'S words of encouragement and skillful treatment, morale was maintained during the crucial period and casualties were kept at a minimum. Lieutenant RAMIREZ DE ARELIANO'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Puerto Rico.
