GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 354 - 24 August 1953
AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:
Second Lieutenant FRANK W. DOUGLAS, 01881887, Infantry, Company "I", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the afternoon of 25 June 1953, a reconnaissance party from Company "I" led by the company commander advanced to reconnoiter a new sector on the main line of resistance in the vicinity of Songdong-ni, Korea. After having been halted by a stalled vehicle on the route, they became subjected to an intense enemy artillery shelling, during which the company commander was mortally wounded. Immediately taking command of the situation Lieutenant DOUGLAS successfully directed the evacuation of the casualties from the artillery torn area and maneuvered the men to comparative safety. Exposing himself to the lethal dangers involved in extricating the reconnaissance party from the devastated area, he accomplished his task without additional casualties. Lieutenant DOUGLAS' outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Florida.
