GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 321  7 Aug 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men:

Second Lieutenant ROBERT G. WALLACE, 02265108, Armor, Tank Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the night of 13 June and during the early morning hours of 14 June 1953, Lieutenant WALLACE was in command of a section of light tanks which went deep in enemy territiory to give supporting fire to a friendly raiding party on Hill "412" in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea. As he was directing the tanks into a deployed firing position, the enemy subjected the area to intese mortar fire. Lieutenant WALLACE, exposed to the enemy shell fire in his open tank commander's hatch, gave fire direction commands which brought heavy and effective shell fire on the enemy troops and fortifications. The enemy employed illuminating flares which completely exposed his tank to enemy observation and shell fire but he continued commanding the section from an exposed position until he was ordered to move his tank back to the friendly main line of resistance. Lieutenant WALLACE'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Tennessee.
