GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 323  7 Aug 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

Corporal (then Private First Class) ANGELO A. PARLAPIANO, US51182081, Army Medical Service, Medical Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the early morning hours of 11 June 1953, the Company "B"  sector of the main line of resistance in the vicinity of Kumhwa, Korea, was subjected to an intense mortar and artillery shelling. The shell fragments inflicted numerous casualties in the area near the position of Corporal PARLAPIANO. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he went into the open terrain to administer aid. He worked, cleaning and dressing wounds, while the mortar fire rained down on the area. Soon after the inception of the shell fire, the enemy forces attacked the sector in a determined effort to drive the friendly troops off the important position. He rendered medical assistance and directed the evacuation of the wounded despite the increasing volume of fire which raked the area. In the bitter hand-to-hannd combat which ensued, he continued to render skillful and effective medical aid while being constantly harassed by the enemy fire. Corporal PARLAPIANO'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Connecticut.
