GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 319 7 Aug 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officer and enlisted men:
Corporal (then Private First Class) CALVIN LOVELESS, RA33566067, Armor, Tank Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the night of 14 June and during the early morning hours of 15 June 1953, a task force of tanks supported a raid on enemy held Hill "412" in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea Corporal LOVELESS, driver of the lead tank, departed friendly lines and soon after was subjected to an intense concentration of mortar and artillery fire. Despite the heavy fire, he directed the tank to an effective firing position deep in enemy held territory. When the tank reached the position, he dismounted and braved the intense shell fire to provide security for the tanks during the ensuing sction. After the intense fire fight which led to the successful accomplishment of the mission of the raiding party, he mounted the tank and skillfully meneuvered back to the friendly lines. Corporal LOVELESS' outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Maryland.
