GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 132 13 May 1951AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men :
CORPORAL ENRIQUE AVILES, RA10403859, Infantry, Company "D", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 22 December 1950, in the vicinity of Hungnam, Korea, Corporal AVILES was assistant gunner of a machine gun in the sector assigned to Company "A" 65th Infantry. The defense line was attacked by a strong enemy force, about company size. Although his position was under intense enemy small arms and automatic weapons fire, Corporal AVILES remained at his position, delivering accurate and effective fire against the enemy mass attacks. When friendly artillery fire started to fall in front of his position, Corporal AVILES, continued to place accurate fire into enemy positions until they were forced to withdraw. Corporal AVILES courage and exemplary behavior against an armed enemy reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
