GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 117 29 April 1951AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men :
CORPORAL FRANCISCO I. COLLAZO, RA30416036, Infantry, Company "L", 65th Infantry, 3d infantry Division, United States Army. On 15 December 1950, in the vicinity of Sunghung-ni, Korea, information was received of a wounded American soldier in enemy territory. Corporal COLLAZO promptly volunteered to attempt the rescue. He traveled approximately for miles in snowy, broken terrain, often under enemy fire and in areas infested by the enemy. In spite of those adverse and dangerous contitions he was able to find the wounded man and return him to the safety of his own lines. Corporal COLLAZO'S courage, fortitude, and concern for a comrade reflect great credit upon himself and teh military service. Enter the military service from Puerto Rico.
