GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 118 30 April 1951AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men :
CORPORAL GREGORIO RIVERA APONTE, RA30430738, Army Medical Service, Medical Company, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 30 January 1951, near Towol-li, Korea, a platoon of Company "F" was hit by an artillery barrage. Three men were killed and several others were seriously wounded. Among the wounded was Corporal RIVERA APONTE, the platoon aid man. Although wounded, he remained in the platoon area for two hours administering first aid to the wounded. With complete disregard for his own wounds and the sporadic enemy fire directed at his position, he refused to be evacuated and continued to give first aid until two other aid men arrived to care for the wounded. The gallantry and devotion to duty displayed by Corporal Rivera Aponte refelect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico. **
**This citation states that Corporal Gregorio Rivera Aponte was wounded in this action however his name does not show up on the Korean War Casualty File.
