HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 19 - 26 JANUARY 1951
Corporal Hermogemes Alverio, RA10400752, Infantry,
Company "I",
65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States
Army. On 16 December
1950, at Songhung-ni, Korea, when a strong, determined
enemy force
attacked positions held by Company "M" and elements
of Company "I",
a break occurred in the line necessitating the withdrawal
of the Company
"I" command post. Communications ceased. The situation
became serious.
Corporal Alverio volunteered with other members of
his units command
post to attempt to close the break in the line. He
moved forward
through enemy infiltrated area and successfully assisted
in reestablishing
the line at the point of the break through. In the
course of the action
several wounded were discovered and evacuated by Corporal
Alvario and
the volunteer group. The entire action was conducted
under fire from
small arms and grenades while in an area infested with
small enemy groups.
The heroism under fire displayed by Corporal Alverio
reflects great
credit upon himself and the military service. Entered
the military
service from Puerto Rico.
