GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 348 17 Aug 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:
Corporal JAMES D. DUTTON, RA24542485, Infantry, Company "E", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the night of 14 June 1953, Company "E" commenced to attack the strongly fortified enemy outpost, Hill "412" in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea. Corporal DUTTON and the platoon to which he was attached became the object of intense machine gun fire, suffering heavy casualties. Although Corporal DUTTON was seriously wounded, he refused to be evacuated. Disregarding his personal safety, he continued firing his weapon, often times in extremely exposed areas in order to give his platoon proper support.
