HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 404 15 Sept 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:
Corporal JAMES G. GLACKIN, RA12329579, Infantry, Company "I", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the night of 9 June and early morning hours of 10 June 1953, in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea, a reconnaissance patrol, of which Corporal GLACKIN was a member, set out from Company "I" to obtain information about enemy held Hill "412". As the patrol advanced along the hill, it was subjected to enemy grenade and mortar fire. Several casualties resulted and after they had been given medical aid and evacuated, it was learned that one member of the patrol had become separated in the evacuation operation. Corporal GLACKIN, courageously exposing himself to the raking fire of enemy automatic weapons, set out in search of the missing soldier. He successfully accomplished his mission and, after leading this comrade through the heavy enemy fire, directed the evacuation of the last casualty on the hill. Corporal GLACKIN'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from New Jersey.
