GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 95 11 April 1951AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men:
CORPORAL JOSE A. RODRIGUEZ VELAZQUEZ, RA30451642, Infantry, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 6 February 1951, at Plangyo-ri, Korea the Intelligence and Reconnaissance Platoon of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 65th Infantry, while on a motorized patrol, became engaged in a fire fight with the enemy while the vehicles were still in motion. The platoon dismounted and deployed on each side of the road. The enemy began directing its fire at the vehicles. Despite the intense automatic and rifle fire, Corporal RODRIGUEZ VELAZQUEZ, voluntarily and with complete disregard for his personal safety, left the security of his defilade position and exposing himself to the heavy volume of fire, began evacuating the vehicles to a secure area. The actions of Corporal RODRIGUEZ VELAZQUEZ reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
