HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION

GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 385  8 Sept 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

Corporal MANUEL S. PINEDO, US56128868, Infantry, Company "I", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the morning of 30 May 1953, in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea, Corporal PINEDO and three other volunteers were nearing Hill "412" in search of a platoon leader who was missing in action following a battle in that area. As they approached the hill, they were subjected to heavy enemy mortar and artillery concentrations and long range machine gun fire. Corporal PINEDO constantly exposed himself to the fire and, despite the barrage, continued in the search for the missing officer. As the patrol continued its movement forward, it was met with increasing unfriendly fire. A short while later the man was found, and was successfully evacuated over the hazardous route. Corporal PINEDO'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from California.
