GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 281 14 July 1951AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men :
CORPORAL MIGUEL A. TORRES, RA10404159, Infantry, Company "A", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 12 April 1951, near Perae, Korea, the Third Platoon of Company "A", preparing to assault hostile positions on Hill 63, was pinned down by severe enemy automatic weapons fire. Realizing that the advance had been halted, Corporal TORRES, voluntarily crawled forward with his mortar and, setting up the weapon in open terrain under a hail of machine gun fire, directed neutralizing fire, silencing the enemy weapons. This bold maneuver enabled his unit to continue its advance. Corporal TORRES heroism and bold action reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
