HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 345 17 Aug 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:
Corporal (then Private First Class) ROBERT L. FOSTER, RA18426482, Infantry, Company "E", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the night of 14 June and during the early morning hours of 15 June 1953, Company "E" had the mission of raiding Hill "412" in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea. The force departed from friendly lines under intense enemy mortar and artillery fire and advanced toward the enemy held outpost. As they neared the objective, enemy grazing fire inflicted numerous casualties upon the assault element. Corporal FOSTER, an assistant machine gunner, was wounded by an enemy hand grenade during the assault, but refused to be evacuated and continued his advance. Undaunted by the intense fire he made four trips through the impact area between friendly lines and the objective to evacuate the more seriously wounded. Only after his mission was acomplished did he allow himself to be given first aid. Corporal FOSTER'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Texas.
