GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 372 1 Sept 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:
Corporal WALTER J. BOCINOSKI, US55260161, Armor, Tank Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the early evening hours of 21 July 1953, in the vicinity of Kundong-Myon, Korea, as one of the tanks in a tank platoon task force of Tank Company was returning to the friendly lines, it approached two Republic of Korea soldiers lying seriously wounded. Corporal BOCINOSKI, a crew member of the tank, immediately dismounted and braving the intense enemy artillery and mortar fire which rained down around the tank, went to the aid of the casualties. Amid the enemy shell fire, he helped to place the wounded men onto the tank and prepared them for evacuation. As the tank returned to the friendly lines, the wounded men were turned over to medical aidmen who administered vitally needed first aid. Corporal BOCINOSKI'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Illinois.
