GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 528 22 December 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named oficers and enlisted men:
Corporal (then Private First Class) WILLIE HARRIS, US53135707, Infantry, Company "B", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the morning of 17 July 1953, in the vicinity of Kumhwa, Korea, Company "B" assaulted enemy-held Hill "433". In the attack, many friendly casualties were sustained and Corporal HARRIS immediately began to remove the wounded to sheltered positions. Courageously disregarding the defenders fire, he repeatedly moved across the shell-torn terrain, treating the casualties and assisting them to safety, until himself wounded by the enemy fire. Refusing treatment, he continued his vital work. Later, Corporal HARRIS bravely returned unassisted to the main line of resistance, although seriously weakened by his wounds. Corporal HARRIS' outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Alabama.
