AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL (FIRST BRONZE OAK-LEAF CLUSTER). -- BYdirection of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal (First Bronze Oak-Leaf Cluster) with Letter "V" for heroic achievement in connection ith military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officer:
Corporal
DONALD REMILLARD US51151937, Infantry, Company "K", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d
Infantry Division, United States Army. On the night of 24 May 1953, a friendly
ambush patrol of Company "K", after having been deployed around an enemy held
position in the vicinity of Kumhwa, Korea was attacked from both flanks by a
numerically superior hostile force. During the initial stages of the fire fight,
Corporal REMILLARD, a rifleman in the patrol, moved from one exposed position to
another to give more fire power and protection to his comrades. A few minutes
later the patrol was ordered to a more advantageous defensive location. Corporal
REMILLARD remained behind to cover the retrograde movement. As soon as the
patrol had reorganized in the new position, Corporal REMILLARD, without regard
for his personal safety, immedialtely moved down to the sector of the new
perimeter which was receiving the brunt of the enemy's attack. His effective
fire contributed greatly to keeping the enemy from overrunning their positions
until reinforcements arrived. After the enemy had been repulsed, Corporal
REMILLARD volunteered to help evacuate the dead and wounded to friendly lines.
Corporal REMILLARD'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great
credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from
Massachusetts.
