GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 412 - 10 September 1951

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men:

CHAPLAIN (CAPTAIN) JOHN P. JENNINGS, 0931599, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 20 April 1951, near Yonchon, Korea, Chaplain JENNINGS directed a medical team by litter jeep up the Yonchon Valley to evacuate five wounded men of Company "A". On reaching a river not fordable by the litter jeep, he secured a personnel carrier and succeeded in crossing the river, which was under heavy enemy artillery bombardment directed at friendly troops in the area. Dispite the intense volume of fire, Chaplain JENNINGS got through to the wounded and supervised their evacuation to the aid station, giving medical attention enroute and anointing one man before the man died. Chaplain JENNINGS' heroic actions, compassion and altruism were a source of comfort and inspiration to the men about him and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from the State of Ohio.
