GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 156 21 May 1951AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men :
MASTER SERGEANT JAMES MCMURRAY, RA32358716, Armor, Heavy Tank Company, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 26 February 1951, in the vicinity of Pungnam-ni, Korea, Sergeant MCMURRAY, while returning from a mission with his tank platoon, was crossing through friendly lines when he noticed several comrades, who had been wounded or killed, lying in an exposed position. Maneuvering his tank into position so as to afford better protection for the wounded, he dismounted from his tank and despite intense enemy fire, assisted in removing the wounded and dead to the safety of his tank. Sergeant MCMURRAY'S heroic actions prevented his comrades from falling into the hands of the enemy and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from the State of New York.
