Private First Class EARL F. FERGUSON, US55268722, Infantry, Company "I", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the early morning hours of 30 May 1953, in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea, Private FERGUSON and three other volunteers were nearing Hill "412" in search of a platoon leader reported missing in action after an encounter with the enemy in that area. As they approached the hill, they were subjected to heavy enemy mortar, artillery and long range machingun fire. Private FERGUSON continually exposed himself to this fire and courageously continued in the search for the missing officer. A short while later the man was found and evacuated to friendly lines. Private FERGUSON'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Indiana.
