Bronze Star
HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 407 16 Sept 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:
Private First Class GEORGE F. TRISTAO, US56128684, Infantry, Company "G", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the night of 23 July 1953, in the vicinity of Kumhwa, Korea, heavy barrages of enemy artillery and mortar fire landed on the Company "G" positions. As a result of the intense concentration, the vital wire communications lines between the listening post forward of the main line of resistance and the command post were destroyed. Private TRISTAO, a wireman, immediately volunteered to repair the lines. Leaving a position of comparative safety, he and an assistant went to the points at which the lines had been severed. Although greatly handicapped by darkness and rugged terrain, and in constant danger from the increasing enemy fire, he succeeded in repairing the lines and re-establishing the communications essential to the defense of the position. Private TRISTAO's outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from California.
