GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 385 8 Sept 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:
Private First Class HAROLD L. IRVING, US55266895, Infantry, Company "K", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the morning of 6 July 1953, in the vicinity of Honu-Chon, Korea, Company "K" began an attack on enemy held Hill "250". Upon entering the second sector of the hill, the assault platoon was subjected to intense enemy fire. Immediately three machine guns were set up to support the attacking forces. Private IRVING, a machine gunner, quickly directed his fire upon the entrenched foe until wounded by the enemy fire. Disregarding his wounds, he courageously continued to fire his weapon, inflicting many enemy casualties and materially aiding the platoon in the success of the attack. He operated his weapon with speed and accuracy until unable to continue because of his wounds. Only then did he allow himself to be evacuated to the safety of friendly lines. Private IRVING'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Michigan.
