GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 380 5 Sept 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:
Private First Class JAMES R. FEATHERS, RA13448163, Army Medical Service, Medical Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the early morning hours of 6 July 1953, in the vicinity of Honu-Chon, Korea, Company "K" commenced an attack on enemy held Hill "250". Shorthly after the assault began, the support platoon was called into action. Private FEATHERS was a medical aidman attached to this unit. Upon arriving at the scene of battle, he saw a number of casualties lying in positions exposed to enemy observation and fire near the crest of the hill. Without regard for his personal safety, he immediately went to their aid. Going from one wounded man to another, he administered badly needed first aid and directed litter bearers in the evacuation of the casualties. His courageous actions were highly instrumental in saving the lives of many friendly soldiers. Private FEATHERS' outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Pennsylvania.
