GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 368 1 SEP 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:
Private First Class KENNETH VOLLINK, US55286892, Infantry, Company "K", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the early morning of 6 July 1953, Company "K" commenced to attack enemy held Hil "250" in the vicinity of Honu-Chon, Korea. After moving over the first crest of the hill without incident, the assault force came under intense machine gun and automatic rifle fire when attempting to asault the second slope of the hill. Private VOLLINK, an automatic rifleman, immediately directed his fire on automatic rifle positions to the right of a machine gun bunker. In the ensuing action, Private VOLLINK was wounded by grenade fragments but continued in the assault of enemy positions. His rapid and accurate fire resulted in mortally wounding one of the enemy and redering others as casualties. Shortly thereafter, he was again wounded by the burst of an enemy artillery shell which prevented him from continuing the attack. Private VOLLINK'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Michigan.
