HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 87 6 April 1951AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men:
PRIVATE FIRST CLASS MIGUEL L. BECERRIL SAAVEDRA, RA30451639, Infantry, Company "C", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 3 February 1951, in the vicinity of Suwon, Korea, Private BECERRIL SAAVEDRA was a member of a patrol which was pinned down by heavy enemy automatic weapons and mortar fire. Private BECERRIL SAAVEDRA, acting upon his own initiative and with complete disregard for his personal safety, left his position of safety and advanced up a steep slope raked by intense enemy fire to a position close to the enemy strongpoint in order to deliver effective fire upon the enemy. His action diverted the attention of the enemy away from the remainder of the patrol. The men, covered by his fire, were able to proceed with their mission. Only when the patrol was safely withdrawn did he leave his position. The courage, intrepidity, and initiative displayed by Private BECERRIL SAAVEDRA reflect the highest traditions of the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
