GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 309 25 July 1951AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men :
PRIVATE FIRST CLASS PEDRO HUERTAS MARRERO, US50101304, Army Medical Service, Medical Company, 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the period 3-7 June 1951, the 1st Battalion, 65th Infantry attacked firmly entrenched enemy positions in the vicinity of Chiperi and Yunggok, Korea. Friendly casualties were extremely heavy and intense artillery and mortar barrages made evacuation operations very difficult and dangerous. With completed disregard for his own safety, Private HUERTA MARRERO repeatedly drove his litter jeep through the enemy barrage and successfully evacuated 92 casualties to the medical aid station where prompt medical attention was administered. The outstanding heroism and genuine concern for the welfare of his comrades displayed by Private HUERTAS MARRERO reflect the highest credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
