GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 375  2 Sept 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

Private First Class RAYMOND CERVANTES, RA17367052, Infantry, Company "F", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. In the early afternoon of 10 June 1953, in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea, Company "F" attacked enemy held Hill "412". Private CERVANTES, a radioman, accompanied the support platoon. As his platoon moved into position on the hill, it was subjected to heavy barrages of enemy artillery and mortar fire. One of the rounds, exploding near him, threw him to the ground and seriously wounded a comrade nearby. Although dazed by the blast, Private CERVANTES, refused to take cover, and immediately went to the aid of the friendly soldier, administering vitally needed medical aid. He then obtained litter bearers who carried the wounded man to safety. Private CERVATES' outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Nebraska.
