HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 287 28 July 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:
Private First Class TOMMY L. PINKSTON, RA14405586, Infantry, Company "F", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the afternoon of 10 June 1953, in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea, Company "F", as it advanced in its company size raid, made contact against the enemy on Hill "412". Private PINKSTON, a member of a subordinate assault element in that action, displayed outstanding courage. When previous initial attempts at assaulting enemy positions on the reverse slope of the hill had failed, he volunteered to join an eight member assault team in advancing towards the enemy soldiers which defended the positions. Although he had suffered the effects of an exploding concussion shell, he charged over the crest of the hill and assaulted, through an intense hail of fire, the enemy positions with successful results. Private PINKSTON'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Mississippi.
