GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 16 10 January 1952AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL (FIRST BRONZE OAK LEAF CLUSTER) - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officer and enlisted men :
PRIVATE FERNANDO TORRES MORALES, US50101692, Infantry, Company "E", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 6 August 1951,"E" Company's Third Platoon, assigned the mission of patrolling enemy territory near Hoesan-ni, Korea, was pinned down by hostile automatic weapons and mortar fire. During this action, Private TORRES MORALES, a scout of the First Squad, knowing that the mission was to capture prisoners for intelligence purposes, advanced behind the enemy lines and, securing a prisoner, brought the hostile soldier back to his unit. Private TORRES MORALES' voluntary heroism reflects great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
