GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 384 8 Sept 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:
Private EARNEST DANIEL, US55323886, Infantry, Company "K", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the early morning hours of 6 July 1953, in the vicinity of Honu-Chon, Korea, Company "K" commenced an attack on enemy held Hill "250. After a short firefight, the first two sectors of the objective were overrun by the assault platoon. When it entered the third sector, the unit came under intense fire from enemy automatic weapons positions. Private DANIEL, a rifleman in the 3d squad, courageously rushed the entrenched enemy, alternately firing his rifle and throwing renades. He had succeeded in materially reducing the enemy fire when the foe concentrated an artillery and mortar barrage in the immeiate area. Shortly thereafter, he was critically wounded by shell fragments and rendered incapable of cintinuing the assault on the enemy position. Private DANIEL'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Illinois.
