HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 283 15 July 1951AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officer and enlisted men :
PRIVATE EDWIN CABAN, JR., ER12341887, Infantry, Company "E", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 23 April 1951, while holding defensive positions on Hill 150 in the vicinity of Onsu-dong, Korea, the Third Platoon of Company "E" was attacked by a numerically superior enemy force and compelled to withdraw to more tenable positions. As the troops were withdrawing, Private CABAN remained in his foxhole, firing his rifle and throwing hand grenades at the attacking enemy, killing five of them. Despite the heavy volume of fire to which he was continuously exposed, Private CABAN directed the fire of the automatic rifleman on hostile mortar positions. Private CABAN'S heroic and determined resitance aided the successful withdrawal of the unit and reflects great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from the State of New York.
