HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 428 1 October 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:
Private LEBULUM STEWART, US52272221, Infantry, Company "I", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the early morning hours of 3 July 1953, in the vicinity of Honu-Chon, Korea, a patrol set out from Company "I" on a reconnaissance mission forward of the main line of resistance. As the patrol advanced near a known minefield two explosions were heard. Upon investigation it was learned that another patrol had unknowingly moved into the mined area and suffered several casualties as a result of the explosions. Volunteering to serve as a litter bearer, Private STEWART immediately began to remove the wounded, disregarding the hazards of the minefield. Suddenly, a series of flares was set off and the enemy commenced to direct heavy concentrations of mortar fire on the illuminated area. Private STEWART courageously continued his work and successfully completed the evacuation of the wounded. Private STEWART'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Ohio.
