Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army.
On 15 December 1950 at
Songhung-ni, Korea, Private Berrios Ortiz volunteered
with members of the
company command post to attempt to close a serious
break in the line which
had occurred when an assault by a numerically superior
enemy had forced Company
"M" and Company "I" to withdraw. Private Berrios Ortiz
advanced with
the volunteer group and as a result of the action which
followed, the line was
closed. Private Berrios Ortiz assisted in evacuating
many wounded men from
the area. The entire actio was conducted in the face
of small arms fire
and in an area where the enemy had infiltrated. The
gallantry in action
displayed by Private Berrios Ortiz reflects great credit
upon himself and the
military service. Entered the military service from
Puerto Rico.
