GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 242 -10 July 1953

AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:

Private SHERMAN D. WARNER, US52226360, Army Medical Service, Medical Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the afternoon of 9 June 1953, Private WARNER, a medical aidman, accompanied the supporting element in a patrol which had the mission of assaulting Hill "412" in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea. During the attack, he was informed that there were several seriously wounded men with the assault group. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he immediately went forward to their aid, exposing himself to intense enemy hand grenade and small arms fire. After administering every aid possible under the conditions, he helped evacuate the wounded men to a place where they could be removed to a hospital. He repeated this process several times in the course of the fire fight and rested only when he was assured that the wounded men had been efficiently assisted and evacuated. His actions resulted in the alleviation of much suffering and the saving of many lives. Private WAREN'S outstanding heroism and devotionto duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Pennsylvania.
