HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 141 - 10 April 1952
AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL. - By direction of the president, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944) and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, and Department of the Army Message W89043, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following enlisted men:
SERGEANT FIRST CLASS ANGEL CORTES, NG20023421, Infantry, Company "F", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 23 December 1951, elements of Company "F" were engaged in a vicious struggle with the foe on Hill 200, near Sangnyon-Myon, Korea. The devastating hostile fire was inflicting numerous friendly casualties and additional aid was needed to safely evacuate the wounded. Sergeant CORTES, a squad leader in a platoon which was not engaged in this action, immediately volunteered to go to the aid of his comrades, even though an intense mortar barrage was then falling in this area. While advancing to their aid he was wounded, but continued on until ordered back for medical attention. His untiring devotion to his comrades and to duty so inspired the members of his squad that they proceeded and rapidly evacuated the wounded men. Sergeant CORTES' heroism reflects great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal service from Puerto Rico.
