HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 260 11 July 1951AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men :
SERGEANT FIRST CLASS CARLOS GARCIA, RA104002101, Infantry, Company "D", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 20 April 1951, near Yonch'on, Korea, Sergeant GARCIA'S recoilless rifle platoon was in general support of rifle elements engaged with enemy forces. After hostile automatic weapons fire had been directed on the attacking riflemen, Sergeant GARCIA skillfully brought effective return fire to bear on the foe's positions. By the revealing backblasts of the recoilless rifles, the enemy observers were able to locate and place a heavy barrage on the emplacements. However, Sergeant GARCIA moved from one gun to another encouraging the men and directing their fire, while he also controlled the supply of ammunition. Sergeant GARCIA'S firm and heroic leadership reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
