GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 136  14 May 1951

 

    AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL (POSTHUMOUS) - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted man :

SERGEANT FIRST CLASS EVANGELIO LOPEZ, RA10405180, Infantry, Headquarters and Headquarters Company. 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 3 February 1951, near B'an gyo-ni, Korea, Sergeant LOPEZ was a member of an armored reconnaissance patrol. The patrol was brought under intense enemy automatic and small arms fire which was concentrated upon Sergeant LOPEZ'S vehicle. In order to return fire upon the enemy Sergeant LOPEZ stood up in the vehicle and returned fire until he was killed. The courage and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant LOPEZ reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
