HEADQUARTERS 3D INFANTRY DIVISION
GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 387 8 Sept 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men:
Sergeant First Class FELIX S. RAYA, RA38103101, Infantry, Company "E", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On the night of 14 June 1953, in the vicinity of Sagimak, Korea, Company "E" launched an assault on enemy held Hill "412". Sergeant RAYA was platoon sergeant of the 3d platoon, which formed a section of the assault element. As they approached the objective, the platoon came under intense enemy mortar, artillery and small arms fire, and suffered numerous casualties. Sergeant RAYA was seriously wounded in this barrage but continued to advance toward the enemy positions and inspired a high spirit of aggressiveness in the remaining members of his platoon. As his comrades were wounded, he efficiently directed their evacuation and courageously moved on, fighting and giving his men words of encouragement, until his wounds made it impossible to continue. Sergeant RAYA's outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Arizona.
