GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 314 26 July 1951AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men :
SERGEANT FIRST CLASS FIDEL RIVERA, RA10403458, Infantry, Company "B", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 4 June 1951, while attacking a strongly entrenched enemy force on a ridge line near Unchanai, Korea, Company "B" was subjected to strong hostile fire which caused several casualties. Sergeant RIVERA voluntarily left the comparative safety of his position and, courageously exposing himself to the fierce enemy fire, moved about organizing carrying parties to evacuate the wounded. When a withdrawal to more tenable positions was ordered, Sergeant RIVERA formed and directed a rear guard which allowed his unit to leave the area with a minimum number of additional casualties. Sergeant RIVERA'A heroism and exemplary courage reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
