AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL. - By direction of the president, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944) and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, and Department of the Army Message W89043, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following-named officers and enlisted men:
SERGEANT FIRST CLASS ILDEFONSO RODRIGUEZ RIVERA, RA10405630, Infantry, Company "F", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 31 March, 1951, as Sergeant RODRIGUEZ RIVERA'S company was assaulting enemy positions on Hill 398, in the vicinity of Choksong-myon, Korea, the lead platoon was stopped by an entrenched enemy throwing hand grenades from the crest of the hill. Sergeant RODRIGUEZ RIVERA remaining exposed to heavy enemy fire for about two hours directed the efforts of his squad to dislodge the enemy from his positions. After a second platoon came to relieve the pressure from his unit, Sergeant RODRIGUEZ RIVERA moved his squad to the right and kept a constant barrage of grenades and rifle fire on the enemy in order to hold his attention while the other platoon attacked them. Sergeant RODRIGUEZ RIVERA'S courage and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
