GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 317 27 July 1951AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named officers and enlisted men :
SERGEANT FIRST CLASS (then SERGEANT) MONSERRATE HERNANDEZ AVILES, RA30430060, Infantry, Company "E", 65th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. On 23 April 1951, near Onsu-dong, Korea, the Third platoon of Company "E" was attacked by a large enemy force while occupying a defensive position on Hill 150. Sergeant HERNANDEZ AVILES, after leading his squad courageously through a hail of enemy fire to better firing positions, advanced to within 25 yards of the enemy and hurled grenades into the attacking force. His heroic and aggressive actions materially contributed in containing the hostile force and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Puerto Rico.
