Sergeant First Class RAYMOND CLIPPER, RA17242505, Infantry, Company "G" 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the late afternoon of 16 July 1953, in the vicinity of Kumhwa, Korea, a friendly patrol unknowingly entered an antipersonnel mine field, detonated some of the mines and sustained several casualties. When a call of assistance was made, Sergeant Clipperimmediately volunteered to lead a group of litter bearers into the mine field. Exposing himself to intense enemy artillery and small arms fire which was then landing in the area, he guided the group through a safe lane in the hazardous area. He then sided in carefully placing the casualties on litters and assisted in their removal from the disaster area by guiding the litter bearers to safety. He made several trips, guiding and assisting the litter bearers, while constantly subjected to enemy fire. Sergeant CLIPPER'S outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Kansas.
