GENERAL ORDERS - NUMBER 407 16 Sept 1953AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL - By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec II, WD Bul 3, 1944), and pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Bronze Star Medal with Letter "V" device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States is awarded to the following named enlisted men:
Second Lieutenant FRANK W. DOUGLAS, JR., 01881887, Infantry, Company "I", 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, United States Army. During the early morning hours of 3 July 1953, in the vicinity of Honu-Chon, Korea, Lieutenant DOUGLAS was leading a patrol close to a minefield when several explosions were heard. He dispatched five men to investigate the cause of the explosions and was informed upon their return that a friendly patrol had unknowingly entered the minefield and sustained several casualties. Lieutenant DOUGLAS then courageously led his men through the minefield and directed the treatment and evacuation of casualties. While he was engaged in these activities, a series of flares illuminated the area, exposing the friendly troops to enemy observation. The enemy immediately directed mortar fire on the area but Lieutenant DOUGLAS rapidly and efficiently completed the evacuation, removing the wounded men to safety. Lieutenant DOUGLAS' outstanding heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the Federal Service from Florida.
